After leaving the town pub, Ryuji walked into the woods at the edge of town and was never seen again.
Just kidding.
After leaving the pub, Ryuji headed to his room, changed into a pair of jeans and a long-sleaved t-shirt, and went into the woods. For the next week he sat in silent meditation, sleeping some, eating nothing, drinking only the rain that fell from the sky. He thought about his life, about the choices he had made and where he wanted to go from here. He thought about the unceasing anger that had plagued him recently. He knew that it wasn't only the personal family problems that troubled him, but instead the suppressed anger of many years finally exploding. He felt deep shame for a time: for his actions, because of what he felt were his shortcomings as a father and a teacher, and because of all the things in his life. He briefly contemplated suicide before dismissing it - that would be more shameful than anything he had ever done. He composed poetry, he, thought about his students, each in turn, he thought philosophy and he tried o decide what his goals were. He felt as though this was the first time in his life that he had ever actually though about everything.
When he roused a week later, and rose stiff-legged and staggering, he felt as though he were a new person. He had decided to return to Spymaster to teach, but with a new philosophy on life and on teaching. Instead of simply teaching his students he wanted to guide them in life as much as he could, to make them into good, honorable people - that, perhaps, once spymasters, they would use their abilities for the greater good - whatever good they felt that they needed to do in the world. He wanted to be a spiritual and emotional counselor to these students - many of whom had been through extrordinary lives to reach the point that they were at. He decided to become a better father to his children, and to aloow them to grow in their own ways - to be as much a father as he could be from across the world.
Ryuji felt born anew, rejuvinated and focused and pure, ready to begin his new life. Unfortuanely, he only lasted a few steps. Reaching the beaten path, he took a few steps and keeled over and died from dehydration and hunger.
Just kidding again.
But he did faint.
Just kidding.
