She finally calmed and just took a breath. She had a bit of a short temper problem, she'd have much work on this and many problems just because of it.

She wrote something down in her notepad and passed it to Nathan.

Nathan looked up again from his book when he realised he wasn't alone after all. Then again, it was that silent girl from his class - she seemed to move pretty silently, to be able to slip by the teachers who came here to throw out all the girls.
Looking at what she had written in the notepad, he grinned a little and held up the book. "I'm reading. Or do you mean what I'm doing here here? If so, I think the question should be more along the lines of 'what are you doing here?'... considering this is the boys' dorms."
He set down the book next to him, upside down so as to not lose his place. The title revealed it to be a book on Cryptography - Nathan was really taking to that subject; plus, he had borrowed it anyway while completing his first Infiltration task.
He studied the girl - wasn't her name Harem or something like that? Perhaps he should ask her, instead of just sitting here, but he wanted to give her a chance to answer his first question first.

Harem was a bit shocked. She had been totally consumed with the faculty outside that she did not here Nathan.
She visually pouted sticking her bottom lip out. realizing she was acting like a baby, she composed herself.
She wrote down on her pad:
I got Lost.
Of course this was a lie. She mapped the whole school down in her head once she got here. It' was one of the things her parents taught her to do.
But apparently they didn't teach her how to lie., fore she fidgeted while Nathan read the paper.

"Ah," he said, and then, feeling a bit foolish, smiled at her. "I thought all the other girls being herded off would've caught your attention, though... or perhaps you all got lost?" He knew he was teasing a bit, but then again, he was the one who was having his privacy invaded here, wasn't he?
Besides, she was fidgeting, despite not even having uttered a word. Nathan found this slightly strange, as he generally found it easier to think or write a lie down than to say it - but then, he didn't use notepads as his main mean of communication.
"Well, I suppose this place is large enough to get lost in," he continued, shrugging a little. "I'm Nathan, in case you didn't know... and you're..." he paused here for a moment. Her name was Harem, wasn't it? Well, what could she do if he got it wrong, really? Bite his head off? "...Harem, right?"
He brushed the hair from his eyes, but after only a few moments, it fell back, and he didn't bother to push it away again.

Harem nodded and looked down at her shoes.
She had no idea what to do. It was as if she were....
Me, nervous? T-that's impossible. Why should i be nervous. It' only a boy, and me, alone, in a room.
She shook her head. What should i do? What should I do? What would Auntie do?
"Would you like to go to the dance with me?" She spluttered out. Her voice was so low it was hard to hear. She hadn't used it often and the feeling of her vocal cords being put into use hurt her throat a bit.

Nathan blinked at the girl. 'Wow,' was his first thought. 'She just spoke? Really?' For a moment he thought he had imagined it, but judging from his eardrums' testimony, he hadn't. He gaped a little while trying to process this. Then his brain finally caught up with his shock and repeated her words for him. Go to the dance together? Well... he didn't have someone to go with, and this girl seemed nice enough - he didn't know anyone all that well yet, but she didn't seem worse than anyone else, though perhaps a little odder than most.
"I..." he began, then shook his head just a little bit, trying to wake himself up. "I'd like to go to the dance with you, yeah." He studied her face and sat up a little more. She was about his own age, and quite pretty. He smiled a little at her, hoping to put her at ease.
He bit his bottom lip just a little, wondering about her ability to speak, but decided to wait with asking her about it until later.

Harem touched her neck underneath the scarf she always wore. That hurt, but it was nice.
Writing quickly on her notepad, she ripped the page and gave it to Nathan.
I should go now... Goodbye.

He read the paper and looked up at her. "Alright... I guess I'll see you around... for the dance, then?" He wasn't quite certain how to deal with the girl now, but he figured it would probably work out somehow.
"Make sure the teachers don't catch you when you head out, alright?"
As for her voice, he figured he could ask her about it the next time they met.

Harem nodded and stepped out the room. Once the door closed behind her, she looked around for any teachers. She exited the boys dorms and picked up her plate of food she had forgotten.
Eep... Ants.

Once Harem was out again, Nathan picked up the Cryptology book again and went back to reading. Dressed in black as he were, and sitting quite still in the room, people who entered might well believe the room was empty.

Post by Fredrick Nova on Aug 31, 2006 19:27:09 GMT -5
Fredrick walked through the apparently empty common room with a suitcase in each hand and a violin case under his arm. His mother had promised that she would send along his other instruments as time and money allowed, but the violin was easy to pack and light enough to carry. He found his small room and set his things down, looking around. It needed some decoration, but at least there was a window. Fredrick liked windows, they meant freedom.
He shuffled his clothes into the drawers and wardrobe, put away his books and music, and hung a few posters of his parents' tours on the walls for colour. The violin he left in its case for now and, after a moment's hesitation, he pushed it under his bed. It was quiet in the dorms and he didn't want to stand out by playing music, especially since he just arrived.
Stretching a bit, he decided to have a look around. There was a bookcase in the common room he wanted to look at, and it always paid to know a little bit about your surroundings. He made his way back down the hall to the larger room and was halfway to the bookshelf before he noticed there was someone else in the room.
Fredrick started a bit, he was used to being the least obtrusive person anywhere. Then he smiled sheepishly at the red-headed boy in black.
"Wow, you're quiet," he managed in his slightly-too-deep voice.

The read-headed boy in black was of course Nathan. He had heard the other boy arriving, and decided he would go greet him once the chapter was finished. The new boy had gotten ahead of him, however, by returning to the common room before Nathan had finished reading about Vigenère ciphers. He sat still, looking blankly at the book as he was really concentrating on the other's movements through the room.
When the boy finally noticed him, Nathan looked up from the book, studying him thoughtfully. It had been a long time since he last saw someone so inconspicious. A bit round, with glasses, the boy seemed mostly harmless. Still, this was the Spymaster School, meaning chances were, he wasn't quite as harmless as he seemed.
Nathan lowered the book a bit and shrugged. "I guess so - then again, most people tend to be quiet when reading," he grinned weakly at the other. "I'm Nathan Dark, by the way. You're new, right? If you need help finding your way around, just let me know."

Fredrick nodded.
"Thanks. It's a big place, isn't it?" he attempted a slightly lost look, it helped to have people underestimate him. "I'm Fredrick Nova, but you can call me Fred if you like."
He smiled as he said the last bit. He'd never been a Fred, his parents insisted on Fredrick. Fred was better, shorter, more normal.
"What's that you're reading?"
